Konica Minolta contracts IPCO to provide a proof-of-concept VOIP service for Workplace Hub
IPCO, a Norwegian provider of telecom services across the globe, today announced that they have been contracted to build and operate a proof-of-concept platform for voice services for Konica Minolta’s Workplace Hub.
Workplace Hub is the world’s most connected intelligent edge platform for the workplace of the future, and represents the next phase of Konica Minolta’s long history in innovation. Acting as a central hub that simplifies IT for an organisation, Workplace Hub drives efficiencies by reducing the overall costs of IT management and service provision, and providing real-time data-driven insights that help to improve business processes.

IPCO awarded EU Horizon 2020 innovation project

IPCO, an NCE Smart member, has been awarded funding by the prestigious EU Horizon 2020 Open Disruptive Initiative for its “Cloudfone Visitor Service” innovation project. Of the 1995 European SME applications, IPCO is the only Norwegian SME to receive funding in the ICT topic. The EU award proves IPCO’s highly innovative business plan has the potential to deliver disruptive change to the EU and global telecom markets. The award of 50 000 Euro covers a 5-month project producing a technology demonstrator and a verified business plan.
The Horizon 2020 Open Disruptive Initiative is EU’s scheme to promote innovation capable of fundamentally changing how EU members interact and conduct business. The scheme encourages SMEs and start-ups to apply for financial support of innovative projects.

Multinational mobile telephony
Increased mobility in Europe has led to increased multinational family and friend connections as well as increased work or holiday homes abroad. With today’s mobile technology, users must choose which mobile number they will be available on. Today, when users move to, frequently visit or have an extended stay in another country, they often wish to use a local number making them unavailable on their country of origin number. IPCO is solving this by developing a service which enables users to be available on several mobile numbers from different countries at the same time.
Solid business idea: IPCO Cloudfone Visitor Service
IPCO Cloudfone Visitor Service offers mobile operators the opportunity to sell subscriptions with mobile numbers from different countries on one SIM card. The subscriber will be reachable on both their home mobile number and a local number of the country in which they are working or visiting. Citizens with business in several countries can be set up with mobile numbers from all countries of interest. The SIM card will automatically change to the local number of the current country allowing the user to pay local tariffs without changing SIM cards.

IPCO and G&D bring Wi-Fi Calling to MNOs and MVNOs

IPCOand G&D announced today IPCO Cloudfone™, a cloud-based managed service integrating Wi-Fi calling and traditional mobile telephone allowing the users to use their existing mobile number. IPCO Cloudfone™ enables new revenue streams and reduces operational costs for mobile operators through an innovative and patented cloud based authentication and provisioning solution.
· IPCO Cloudfone™ is a cloud-based managed service and offers integrated Wi-Fi calling and traditional mobile telephony service using the users existing mobile number.
· IPCO Cloudfone™ enables new revenue streams, reduces operational costs for MNOs, MVNOs and SPs and lets mobile operators take back the initiative from OTT players.
· IPCO Cloudfone™ includes a SIM Applet on end-user SIM card developed by Giesecke & Devrient (G&D), a Cloud based authentication and provisioning solution, a SIP App and an IN presence service.
The IPCO Cloudfone™ offers integrated Wi-Fi calling and traditional mobile, enabling calling over Wi-Fi using the users existing mobile telephony number when the users have Wi-Fi coverage.
IPCO Cloudfone™ offers Wi-Fi calling as a managed service for MNOs and MVNOs, integrated with the operator’s mobile core-networks without an expensive upgrade to IMS/LTE core. This differentiates IPCO Cloudfone™ with quick deployment and low CAPEX requirement. Unlike an IMS/LTE core Wi-Fi calling solution, the end users can use their existing handsets; rendering the service usable for the waste majority of the subscriber base.
IPCO Cloudfone™ is a SIM-secured OTT service for mobile operators. Distribution of the IPCO Cloudfone™ SIM-card applet controlled by the mobile operator enables the service on the mobile device; generating user credentials for accessing the service without the necessity of HSS integration. This method ensure user authentication with the same level of security as in GSM legacy services. G&D is IPCO’s partner on SIM card deliveries.
CEO Morten Zakariassen at IPCO thinks that the IPCO Cloudfone™ service has a huge potential in the market. He says; “Unlike other offerings you do not need to tap in a user name and password, the authentication of the user and the provisioning of the service in done automatically when using a Cloudfone enabled SIM card. The SIM Applet can be downloaded Over-The-Air to most SIM cards”.

Western mobile operators are often in the forefront utilizing new technology, and we are running a IPCO Cloudfone™ pilot with one of them. The feedback so far is that the service is easy to install, as only a couple of interfaces and a routing table in the mobile core were adapted. This Western operator is looking forward to new revenue streams and reduced operational costs. “Our customers will experience better coverage, especially indoors, and they are offered cheap Wi-Fi Calling when travelling and at home”, says a spokesperson for the operator.
